A professionally executed refurbishment can restore your lift to like-new performance, bring it up to current safety standards, upgrade its appearance, and extend its operational life by a decade or more โ€“ at a fraction of the cost of full replacement.

Gartec’s lift refurbishment service covers everything from cosmetic interior upgrades to full mechanical overhauls and control system modernisation. We work with all Gartec and Aritco lift models, and our refurbishment specialists will carry out a thorough condition survey to recommend the most cost-effective approach for your specific situation.

When Refurbishment Is Required

  • Increased frequency of breakdowns or call-outs over the past 12โ€“24 months
  • Spare parts becoming harder to source for older model variants
  • Control system or safety electronics reaching end-of-life
  • Lift interior showing significant wear, damage or dated aesthetics
  • Changes to building use requiring different load capacity or travel height
  • The lift no longer fully meeting current accessibility or safety standards
  • Noise levels that have increased noticeably over time

Our Refurbishment Services

Interior Refurbishment

Upgrade worn or dated lift interiors to suit your building. Options include replacement wall panels (stainless steel, laminate or glass), new flooring, LED lighting upgrades, handrails, and control panel facias. Accessibility improvements such as Braille and tactile buttons can also be added where required.

Mechanical & Drive System

Restore performance by upgrading core mechanical components. Works may include replacement of screw and nut assemblies, motors and gearboxes, or hydraulic components where applicable. Systems are aligned and calibrated to manufacturer specification.

Control System Upgrades

Replace outdated control systems to improve reliability and compatibility. Upgrades enable modern diagnostics, improved fault reporting, and integration with current safety and monitoring requirements, including GSM or IP-based communication systems.

Door & Gate Systems

Improve reliability by upgrading high-wear components. We refurbish or replace door operators, interlocks, safety edges and gate systems. This reduces call-outs and brings installations in line with current EN 81-41 requirements.

Structural Repairs

Identify and resolve structural issues affecting the installation. We assess the lift structure, guide rails and fixings. Where damage or wear is identified, targeted repairs are carried out to maintain safe operation.

Safety System Upgrades

Update safety systems to meet current standards. This includes improvements to emergency lighting, communication systems and safety circuits, as well as upgrades required due to changes such as the digital telephone network switch-off.

The Refurbishment Process

  1. Initial survey โ€“ A Gartec refurbishment specialist visits your site, carries out a full condition assessment, and produces a written report with prioritised recommendations.
  2. Specification agreement โ€“ We work with you to define the scope, agree on finishes and components, and produce a detailed, fixed-price proposal.
  3. Planning โ€“ Works are scheduled to minimise disruption to building users, with clear communication throughout.
  4. Execution โ€“ our specialist refurbishment team carries out all works, with regular progress updates provided.
  5. Commissioning โ€“ Post-refurbishment, the lift is fully commissioned, tested against specification, and subject to a LOLER thorough examination before handover.
  6. Documentation โ€“ You receive full refurbishment records, updated lift documentation, and where applicable, a renewed warranty on refurbished components.

Return on Investment

When compared against the cost of full lift replacement (which typically includes structural works, installation downtime, planning, and significant capital expenditure), a comprehensive refurbishment frequently delivers equivalent performance outcomes at 30โ€“60% of the cost, with significantly less disruption.
