Wheels at Work – Gartec’s Day of Awareness and Action with NPHT
On 15th October, Gartec proudly hosted a Wheels at Work event in collaboration with the National Paralympic Heritage Trust (NPHT) at our Aylesbury office. Held in our parking area, the event featured a wheelchair obstacle course and team relay designed to raise awareness of disability and accessibility in the workplace. The day brought our team together with NPHT, fostering an engaging and eye-opening experience around the daily challenges faced by wheelchair users.
An Overview of the Wheels at Work Day
The day kicked off with energy and enthusiasm as our employees and NPHT team members gathered for a unique challenge – a relay-style wheelchair obstacle course held in our Aylesbury office parking area.
Each team member took turns navigating a series of obstacles in a wheelchair, testing their coordination, agility, and problem-solving skills. The course was designed to reflect the common obstacles faced by wheelchair users in day-to-day life, such as navigating tight spaces, handling uneven surfaces, and manoeuvring through turns.
The entire experience proved enlightening and impactful, helping our team gain a deeper understanding of the accessibility barriers wheelchair users encounter every day – and through this hands-on challenge, participants gained new empathy and a renewed commitment to fostering a truly inclusive workplace.
Our Fundraising Efforts
Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone involved, our Wheels at Work event raised an impressive £355.06 for the National Paralympic Heritage Trust.
Funds were collected through a raffle and donations, with our team rallying local businesses for prize contributions and financial support. The raffle featured a fantastic selection of prizes, including £150 in Amazon vouchers from Bamboo Nine, wine and treats from Combine Couriers, and vouchers from businesses like Covern Hair and Beauty, MI Skin Clinic, and New York Deli.
Special thanks go to all the local businesses that contributed, including One Stop, Giggle and Graze, China Brasserie, Fusion Business Suppliers, TWS Plastics, and many others. The team’s dedication and outreach made this fundraising success possible, and every donation will support NPHT’s mission to educate and inspire others about disability through the powerful stories of the Paralympics.
Supporting Accessibility Beyond Wheels at Work
This day of hands-on challenges and fundraising not only supported NPHT but also deepened our team’s understanding of the real-world experiences of wheelchair users. We encourage other businesses to support NPHT’s mission and consider joining the Disability Confident Scheme or DICE Business Club to promote accessibility in their workplaces.
Big, big thanks to everyone who participated, donated, and helped make this event possible.
