Design trends to follow this winter

With a new season upon us, it’s all change on the interiors front with summer shades and outside spaces being replaced by cosy interiors and warm, luxurious features. If you’re keen to keep up with the latest winter design trends then below are some of the most popular for autumn/winter 2016.

Nordic landscapes

The Nordic interiors trend is big this season with dreamy, snowy shades and natural materials and fabrics everywhere. At the heart of this trend is the idea of bringing nature indoors, whether that’s natural wood, ice-like glass and Perspex or fabrics like wool and cotton. This trend embraces the dreamy and the romantic, from cloud formations to sunrises, in everything from paint hues, to furniture. It’s a wonderful way to add softer edges to your space.

Memphis Design

One of this season’s key winter design trends takes its inspiration from the 1981 Italian design and architecture group, Memphis Design. This is all about bold colours, modular designs and geometric shapes, whether on fabrics, walls or fittings. It is a playful style that is very optimistic and upbeat, slightly chaotic and very creative. Choose printable fabrics that you can customise, a modular aesthetic and a colour scheme of peach, gray, black, white and yellow to bring a new lease of fun and life to your interiors.

Winter warmth

This year, winter design trends that revolve around warmth focus on an open fire and the natural hues of wood. Rattan is one of the most popular wood trends this season, bringing its own golden glow to lounges, kitchens and even bathrooms. Rattan furniture is the most obvious option – a rattan rocking chair is a contemporary update of a classic look. Open fires are not an option for everyone but if you don’t have a feature fire then there are plenty of ways to reference it. Vintage fire screens, log piles and wicker log baskets all bring the warmth of a hearth where there isn’t one.

Cosmic style

In the run up to Christmas, this is exactly the right time of year for a trend that involves exploding stars, crystals and a touch of magic. There are two elements to this trend: the idea of intergalactic technology and futuristic features and then the drama of space. Think midnight blues, scattered with silver, as well as holographic colours, acid brights and plenty of shimmering metallics. This is a trend that offers plenty of opportunity to add innovative, contemporary design features and a touch of space age style.
